What course can I study with these WAEC results? V

We continue our response to the many questions from students who want guidance on courses of study:

I had F9 in Commerce; A1 in Government; D7 in Biology; B3 in Mathematics; C5 in English; C6 in CRS; B3 in Marketing; E8 in Literature; C5 in Civic. What can i study please?

You can study sociology, political science and any management course that is not competitive. This is because your F9 in commerce defeats the aim of studying a top business related course, but your B3 aids you studying something not too competitive. Your E8 in literature makes it impossible to study any humanities related course. If you can, write again. But if not, study any of the above courses. Also, your D7 in biology has made it impossible to study a science program.

Hello sir, I had A1 in Commerce; Financial Accounting C4; Economics B3; Civic Education C5; English C5; Mathematics C6; Biology C4; Animal Husbandry B3; Office Practice absent. Please what can I do with the results?

You can study any social science or agriculture course. Economics, business administration, psychology, sociology, agricultural science etc. Just anything. Undergraduate courses matter less these days.

Sir, this is my waec result; Biology C4; Chemistry D7; Mathematics C4; English language C6; Civic Education C5;Economics C5; Physics B3; Animals husbandry B3; Agricultural science B3. Please sir, is there any course i can study and graduate with this result? 

Your results looks good, unfortunately the chemistry is not looking good as well. Any agricultural course will be good but the D7 in Chemistry is a problem depending on how competitive the course is and how good the school is. Don’t attempt a pure science course, your chemistry will not make it possible. Anything agriculture is good. Undergraduate course of study matte less these days. Your final grade does.

Sir please I want to offer Accounting in the university with this WASSCE result maths: B3 Economics; B3; Civic C6 English D7; Literature D7; Government B3; Biology B3; Igbo B3; Garment B2.

Your results looks good. However, your English spoilt everything. Rarely would a school admit you for Accounting with a D7 in English. I’m sorry. I’d advise you rewrite WASSCE again and perform across the board satisfactorily. This is because companies nowadays request that your WASSCE should be in one sitting – that’s minimum of a C5 in English and Mathematics.

 Please sir, I have a B3 in marketing, civic education and chemistry; C5 in English; C6 in Hausa; C4 in mathematics; D7 in agriculture; E8 in biology; F9 in physics. 

From your results, you can study a social science course – sociology or at least marketing. However, with your grades in physics, agriculture science and biology, you cannot study a science course whether medically inclined or engineering. In summary, it’s best you write again and see how you can perform satisfactorily across all subjects and ensure you get a minimum of a C5.

Please what course can I offer with the following results: Mathematics C6; English language C6; Civic education C4; Yoruba C4; Agriculture C6; Chemistry B3; Book Keeping C5; Biology D7; Physics E8. 

Your results went smoothly until when you had a D in biology and an E in physics. We would have suggested any relatively easy science course for you but your biology and physics has made it difficult to suggest because most schools will not accept you to study a biological related course with a D in biology. Neither will they allow you to study any physical science or engineering discipline with a D in physics. We would suggest you write again. This time, make a minimum of a C3 across all subjects.

Sir i got B3 in mathematics; D7 in English; C6 in Physics; B3 in Chemistry; C6 in Biology; B3 in Geography; D7 in Economics; D7 in Marketing; B3 in Civic education; Can I get admitted to study computer science in the university?

You can study Computer Science but this depends on the school and her requirements. However, your D7 in English “spoils” everything. Think about the future. Companies today demand that candidates have not less than five credits in their WASSCE results, including English and Mathematics. As a result, you might not be qualified to apply for a job in the future even when your university grade qualifies you. I’ll advise you write the exams again not because of Computer Science, but of your future. You can get admitted to study Computer Science (depending on the school and department), but will you be able to get a job in the future?

Unfortunately, with your grades, we cannot advise you to study any discipline with it. This is because you will need to present your WASSCE grades upon graduation to companies for recruitment. Companies today demand candidates have not less than five credits in their high school results including English and Mathematics, and this will constitute an impossibility to you getting a job even if you finish with a good grade in the university.

Furthermore, with your grades, you cannot study any science related course because of your Mathematics; social science course because of your Economics and arts’ discipline because of your Literature. Quite unfortunate. But we believe you can study harder for the next examination and perform exceedingly well. Finally, we encourage you write the examination again.

You can study any social science course, ranging from economics to marketing to business administration to finance to psychology to philosophy and the likes. Law can be studied but the competition would be too fierce, do not attempt it same with anything Yoruba or culturally related. Kudos to you nonetheless.

Unfortunately, you cannot study any course in the university due to your E8 in English language. Unlike mathematics, English language is compulsory for admissions into Nigerian tertiary institutions. We would advise you write again. Make a minimum of a C.

In conclusion, it is important you perform considerably well across all your subjects and have a minimum of a C. This is because companies nowadays request for your O’level results (with a minimum of 5 credits) when recruiting for entry level positions. This is assuming that you desire to be an employee upon graduation.
