IKEJA ELECTRIC DISTRIBUTION COMPANY (IKEDC)

QUESTIONS:

1. What do you know about IKEDC?

Tip: Concisely narrate when she started, the need behind founding it, important timelines, her aims, vision etc. Basically, give a rundown of the organisation (don’t cram it) in a sequential and composed manner. Reel out what you know (that are accurate and important) about the IKEDC.

2. Walk me through your knowledge about the power sector in Nigeria?

Tip: The questions tests two things; one is your technical ability and knowledge about the industry in Nigeria. You are expected to explain logically how power is generated, transmitted and distributed to customers. Where is IKEDC in this matrix? What is the present state of the industry? Read about the industry in Nigeria and have your technical skills at the back of your palm. Be composed as your composure is being watched, ditto communicative skills. Another way of asking: The electricity in peoples’ homes, walk me through the process of how it is generated and delivered?

3.  Tell me about a time you faced an ethical dilemma?

Tip: The interviewers want to test your integrity skills. No better way than knowing how you fared in a previous exercise. IKEDC deals with clients’ fees and you will be faced with large amounts of money directly or indirectly. Share a similar experience where you faced an ethical dilemma. Ensure it has to do with money and use the STAR technique in dealing with the questions. Never agree to do away with integrity. For example, never accept to have collected a bribe or gave one. Expect follow-up questions.

4.  Describe a time when you had to interact with a difficult client. What was the situation, and how did you handle it?

Tip: As a utility firm, IKEDC works with lots of humans physically. You will be faced with clients’ facing situations frequently and how you manage them satisfactorily (for the client) and profitably (for the firm) is a very important trait the firm is on the look-out for. Tell them about a time when you dealt with numerous clients and how did the process go. Preferably, narrate clients’ facing situations that had to do with financial figures and payments. The STAR technique, yet again, should be used.

5. If we hire you at Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company, how will you make an impact in the first 90 days?

Tip: This question came up a lot of time. Commence by explaining what you would need to do to get ready for the experience at IKEDC. How you will familiarise yourself with various departments and get insights on how they work even though you might not work there.

Next, choose a couple of areas where you think you can make meaningful contributions right away. (e.g., “I think a great starter project would be checking up on the customer relationship process and see and hear what clients desire and complain about with an aim to resolving the issues properly and promptly”).
