This Week’s Gossip on Recruitment

With

Mr. Job Tatafo

My people, come and see crowd! I thought ExxonMobil had a crowd, wetin I see for NNPC pass crusade. Na so una like oyel money? E be like UEFA Champions League final. Only say some people go walk alone after the test without visiting White Hart Lane. E be like the entire country and beyond (I met someone from Cyprus) wrote this NNPC including people wey dey work sef. Isnor fair oh. I had to wake early to beat traffic on my way to Epe from Surulere. Las las, the questions resemble something wey JAMB set (arithmetic, current affairs, and verbal reasoning). In some test centres, some persons were intimidated by the kind of cars candidates drove to venues and other centres had candidates finishing the test within 25 minutes. I thank God, I wrote to my expectations. But wait oh, I heard Dragnet will take over the next stage of the recruitment? Oh Abasi mi! (Oh my God). Sha, na until results come out.

Welcome to this week’s recruitment gossips nationwide.

So Rainoil’s assessment has come and gone. With eficos and brainy folks everywhere you look. From group discussion to breakfast to individual presentation and interview. Questions ranged from: Why Rainoil? Why should we hire you? What was your BSc project on?  When you faced an ethical dilemma? Then essay, HR Avatar, Microsoft Office, Word & Excel tests. All on top salary wey I hear say no go pass 150K per month. Omo, one of our brethren asked almighty Dragnet why she (Dragnet) sets difficult aptitude tests without calculators?

Still on Dragnet, she reduced 14, 681 candidates (who passed the online and physical exams – an initial 30, 000 had applied) to 300 for Nigerian Stock Exchange’s assessment centre for last year’s recruitment program. After the assessment centre, 50 were presented to NSE of which 26 were accepted. This is 14 persons less when NSE commenced her graduate recruitment program few years ago. Guess what? Same Dragnet is in charge of this year’s recruitment. I can imagine someone murmuring “Oh God!”. Lol.

Talking about application numbers, more than 76, 000 people applied for PwC’s graduate trainee program last year. One can only imagine the numbers this year. Let August do and come, let me know my fate.

You remember that MainOne Cable recruitment? Organised by…you know na…Dragnet. I heard the firm feeds her staff during training thrice daily, give laptops (Dell core i5 & 8GB RAM) and pays for your certification. The pay is circa 165K monthly but you go sign bond oh.

Airtel’s test by GetQualified was quite easy. 86 personality test for 25 minutes, 20 cognitive ability questions for 25 minutes, 25 speed test questions for 5 minutes and MS Excel 15 questions for 20 minutes. All these tests wey I don write dey Baba God hand oh. Man pikin need work like kilode!

Our glass company Frigoglass sent success mails only for doubting Thomases to start their ministries at Bode Thomas demanding for screenshots here and there. Screenshot ko, passport ni. The interview went well. After receiving coaching from JarusHub only to meet them for just introduction and documentation. Technical interview is up next at Agbara where majority will work. This job-search carry belly oh. Frigoglass will only recruit 30 candidates (across all centres where the test was written) from the hundreds that applied and wrote the test.

Meanwhile, after all the assessment centre and e-tray exercises. First Bank’s success mails have arrived. I did not apply as I got the information late, but I could recall people sharing tips and questions of the first test in various groups. For instance, some persons who wrote the first day had 40% and those who wrote subsequently had 80% etc. More batches to come later, na First Bank way. This set is the appetizer, main meal and desserts are on the way.

Still on success mails and after much ado, Fidelity Bank has sent success mails to candidates into her graduate trainee program. We await that of the tech program. Make grey hair no grow oh like the waiting process for GTB.

You rememberthat EY recruitment? It is handled by the usual recruitment firm…Drag… She sent invites for a test (logical reasoning, 20 minutes) on June 7 commencing by 9am with the deadline by 6pm same day. There is a trick in taking the test but don’t ask me how oh. No be from my mouth you go hear say “dem shoot bird, eim mama fly”. I can hear voices saying Tatafo is wicked…go and study any LSAT material (examination written into Law schools in the US). Just as Dangote gets her aptitude test material from Indiabix, Dragnet does same for EY using LSAT materials. No time to waste time.

Then the following day, there is a KPMG’s test, which is going to be the beginning of a journey. I remember last year preparations only for some Nairalanders to mention the exact aptitude tests’ materials which made the HR change everything. Anybody get GMAT material wey him no dey use? Ejoo, epp a brotha.

Make I go study LASTMA…oh LSAT. Till next week.
