JarusHub One-Line Description

Africa’s Bill Gates.

JarusHub’s Remarks

The first generation of superbankers include Subomi Balogun,  late Oladele Olasore, etc. The second generation started with the 1989-1991 set of bank founders like Jim Ovia, Erastus Akingbola, Fola Adeola, Tayo Aderinokun, Atedo Peterside and others. Some new guys joined the scene in the mid-90s.  Tony Elumelu was one of them. Tony dazzled with his approach to banking via his Standard Trust Bank. More daring, during the consolidation exercise of 2004/2005, despite STB identity being subsumed into a much bigger UBA, Tony emerged as CEO of the enlarged entity, which he ran until CBN Governor Sanusi’s tenure-limit policy ended the tenure.

Tony has gone ahead to focus on other investments and he has also been actively supporting entrepreneurship drive in Africa since his retirement from CEOship of UBA.
