ICAN: SELF STUDY OR TUTORIALS?

13

Good afternoon, Jarus. May God continue to bless your endeavours. My name is Tolani I sought your opinion last year December as regards choosing between HR or Accounting and you said you’d get back to me in a few days. I expected your response via email but did not get it. It was during my leisure days
after that I read your blog and discovered I was still awaiting your response
whereas it was already published.

However, thank you so much for your candid advice I must say it was of tremendous help. I’ve done my ICAN registration ahead of November diet but I’m in another dilemma now. I visited a tutorial center and was told the time for classes. I left making up my mind that I would read on my own because my work will permit me little study hours during the week and I might not have time to go over what I learnt over the weekend. I have been equipping myself with soft copies of helpful study texts lately but I was advised by a friend to enroll for tutorials nevertheless as she said one or two of the courses cannot be read alone.

I’m in a fix now as I don’t know what to do: Is it possible to make all four papers
at the application level without tutorials?

Thank you so much for patiently reading my lengthy mail. I look forward to your
response or you could also tell me the precise day to visit the blog for my response.

May God continue to increase you and your team in beneficial knowledge.

Dear Tolani,

It is very possible to pass ICAN exams through self-study. That’s actually what I also did.

Since your work will make it tight for you to attend tutorials, please opt for self study. Get enough materials, read very well, study past questions, get lecture tapes for subjects that have, and start preparing early.

I wish you all the best.

    Dear Tolani,
From personal experience, self study is very sufficient to pass ICAN, that’s what I did. My company even paid for classes which I attended a few times but soon realized it wasn’t adding any value so I took to personal study and I don’t even study an accounting or finance related course in University.
Again, do not listen to stories of how ICAN is the most difficult exam in this world, the only thing you need to do is study, get study packs, make use of the syllabus. I cleared all papers without any reference and yes, I work full time in Lagos.

Hi Tolani, I think its depend on one’s level of accimilation and how easy you can grap every bit of your study outlines. I opted for Tutorial class against self study and it help me pass my exam on one sitting. Self study may not be for everybody – forget d cost of tutorial and be objective when asking questions. Thanks
