I keep writing tests without joy, I am distraught

Dear Jarus,

I have followed your posts on Nairaland. I am a job seeker, completed my  service (NYSC) in October 2013, and also recently qualified as an ACA. I have been writing tests and no luck. One of teh “big 4” accounting firms just sent me a message that I failed their assessment. I am very sad and distraught.

I would like to seek your assistance on getting a place I can start my career, as I know you are well connected. And if you’re not in a position to help, your advice will be valuable.

Thanks in advance.

Ade

First, it is a good omen that you are being invited for tests. Many people don’t even get invite for tests. Your recent completion of ICAN is also a big boost.

Don’t be distraught about not landing the jobs yet. You just completed NYSC three months ago, and in my opinion, that’s not too long.  Truth is, barely 10% of graduates, including those that have all the certificates in this, get good job within the first 3 months of completing their NYSC. I don’t think your case is bad. You just have to rethink your preparation strategy. Information may be your bane. I mentioned in this article that in preparing for interviews, do seven things, including asking around how the test or interview of the prospective interviewing company looks like. I can assure you that if you resaerch well, you will come across someone that had done it in the past and can give you useful tips to aid your preparation.

On you other requests, unfortunately, I’m not in a position to give you job, but I will call you over the weekend for further discussions.
