First, the whole email was suspicious for the following reasons:

  • While companies sometimes truly send recruitment emails from “no reply” email addresses,”formresponse.com” gives this email away. Such strange domain is highly suspicious
  • There is no company as Addax Development Petroleum Company. What exists is Addax Petroleum, which is a subsidiary of SINOPEC, the Chinese oil giants
  • Reminder showing in the email subject, as well as the general tone of the email, shows desperation.
  • Bad English. Examples: Notification OF, not notification FOR; Ensure YOU, not ensure TO; failure will result IN disqualification, not failure will result TO disqualification; “Sized Photo Passport” is bad English. etc. No oil company or its agent will send you email written in bad English.

There are many other identifiers that this is fraud from mere reading of the email, but we went further to do the ultimate test by googling INTEL OIL NIGERIA LIMITED + FRAUD, and it led us to the career page of the site of the genuine intel company. The company expressly wrote on the career page of their website that:

“Be Vigilant for Recruitment Scams and Fraud
Please be aware that there are active recruitment scams from groups and individuals claiming to be from Intels Nigeria Ltd or a Intels Nigeria Ltd”
http://careers.intelservices.com/
We also checked Addax website and they also put some fraud alert there:

Alert on fictitious job offers: Addax Petroleum is aware of fraudulent email messages that are sent from time to time by individuals claiming they are (i) representatives of Addax Petroleum Corporation or subsidiaries (real or imagined) of Addax Petroleum, (ii) under contract with Addax Petroleum or a subsidiary to locate prospective employees for work on projects. Often these “offers” require payment in order to be considered for recruitment. Typically, victims are advised that they have been hired by Addax Petroleum or that they may obtain employment with the company. For a fee, applicants are assured that their employment papers, tender offers, job applications and work permits will be processed. In some instances, victims are promised payment to cover relocation expenses. Such promises are not made or generated by Addax Petroleum or in any way associated with us. These are not legitimate Addax Petroleum job offers. Addax Petroleum never requires any candidate to contribute or pay any expenses or fees towards potential employment.

Addax Petroleum, as well as any of its affiliate, disclaims all responsibility with respect to any expense, loss, and/or damage of any kind, which might have occurred in connection with any e-job application and/or recruitment procedure.

It is therefore conclusively proved that this is fraud.
