Q&A ON PROJECT MANAGEMENT, HSE, MANAGEMENT & COMMUNICATION CAREERS

1

Hi Jarus,
My name is Kola, I am a graduate of Physics from a federal university and will like to further in Geophysics. I am currently a corper (2016 Batch A) serving in Nasarawa state. I have been following you all the way from Nairaland to Jarushub for over 3 years now and I must say you are doing a great job especially for the youth.

I will like to get your opinion on the following:
(i) Between a Proficiency Certificate in Management by NIM-Nigeria Institue of Management (Chartered) and a Project Management Professional (PMP) which would be more useful (give me more options) in the future considering my discipline and future career path.

(ii) Please is Health Safety & Environment (HSE) course the same everywhere because over here in Nasarawa they say it will run for 4 weeks (week days) or 5 weeks (weekend). Considering how its importance is emphasised on various threads on Nairaland and on career articles in general, I am having doubt if they will be competent enough. Also the fee is N10000, I don’t know whether its a red flag but they said its at a discounted rate for corps members hence the above fee.

I want to enrol for either of them  very soon.

Thanks in anticipation.

Dear Kola,

1, I think PMP is better.
2, A lot of the HSE trainings are frauds. NEBOSH appears to be the best. But if you have the 10k to spare, no harm in doing it. At least it will be on your CV.
I wish you all the best.

Good evening sir, I hold a BSc in Cooperative and Business Management. Thinking of doing a professional course in Management but I don’t know the one to do. Some of my friends have been advising me to go for ACCA that is a well recognized course but I don’t really know accounting. Please sir I need your advice.
Jide
Dear Jide,
Well, you don’t need to know accounting. You will start from somewhere. I also hated accounting before starting ICAN.
I will also advise you go for ACCA or ICAN.

Hi Jarus
My name is Linda,
I want to be a radio or TV personality but I have a BSc in Geophysics.
In light of that, I’d like to get a Master’s degree in a communications related course. What courses would you suggest that would teach me the things I need to know and what universities?
Thanks.
Dear Linda,
I ran this by JarusHub advisory team and we think you don’t need Msc. Don’t be surprised that half of the folks on TV or radio have no related degree. Go and start interning and learning by practice. If you’re in Nigeria and you must get a formal certificate for start, you may consider enrolling for a related course at  related course at NTA institute at Jos, Plateau state. You may also try a diploma at the National Institute of Journalism.
I wish you all the best.
Jarus
