QUESTIONS:

1.  Why could you not finish through to a first class? (Especially if your 2.1 is close to the first class CGPA)

Tip: This is tricky because if you have a CGPA of 4.46, anyone is likely to ask, why did you miss out? However, if you had any incident that weakened your scores in school. This is the opportunity to explain it while showing your tenacity for success. For instance, “I faced financial difficulties in school and this affected my first year. However, due to my determination to succeed, I applied for a scholarship and won it. Thereby, ensuring I have the needed funds to pursue my education. Although, I could not make a first class as intended, I vowed to make the highest point. Which made me finished in the top 5% of the class.” This is OK provided you don’t lie.

2. Why do you think you are the right candidate for this role?

Tip: You are to demonstrate how your skills; what you have done; experience(s) (if available) and many more make you the right candidate for the role. This is when you have to sell yourself – mention your achievements and how it aligns with the role and culture of KPMG.

3. Why KPMG?

Tip: “KPMG is a world class professional services firm that thrives on ethics, integrity and providing top-notch training. It is an environment I desire to be in by adding value thereby developing myself, while contributing to my community”. Additionally, this is where you have to align your “whys” to the firm’s culture, mission statement and vision.

4. Tell me about a time you led a team?

Tip: The interviewer(s) want to see your leadership qualities. Think about that time where you led a team; whether during school project; religious gathering; excursion or even the captain of a football team. Here, you are expected to narrate the challenges, travails, mission, how disagreements were managed etc. Expect follow-up questions from whatever responses you give

5. Where do you see yourself in five years?

Tip: A typical question. You are expected to give an insight on where you desire to be while in the profession. The interviewer(s) want to know your ambitions and how how the firm is included in such plans moving forward. For instance, if in an audit interview. “I see myself being a thoroughbred accountant and financial analyst providing the best of services to our numerous and priceless clients while upholding the values of the firm. At the same, contributing to the community.”
