SUNDRY QUESTIONS ON COURSES OF STUDY (II)

19

Please advise me on my result, I had credit in all subjects in both my WAEC and NECO combined, except Government where I had D7 in both WAEC and NECO exams. Can I study Mass Communication or Political Science with D7 in Government?  Or which other Art course can I study with this result. Please help me.

Dear Tosin, I ran this by some friends that are more familiar with those courses and here are what they said:

Aliyu Loguma: You can study Mass Communication. Literature and English are favoured over government.

Abimbola Adelakun: These things vary from university to university. Some schools will take you for Mass Communication while others will not because the course is in their social science Faculty and they require Government as a subject. So find out from the school of your choice and make a decision.

Sodiq Alabi: It depends on schools, but what I know is Government isn’t compulsory for Mass Communication in many schools, but Literature in English is.

Remi Ojekunle: You can study Political Science with D7 in some schools too. That’s why it is essential you read through the JAMB Brochure about schools and courses requirements. Public Administration is also a good course out of Political Science if you want to consider other options.

WonderfulSamson Oyatoye: You can study English, Sociology, Public Administration. Some schools will give you Political Science. Unilorin will admit you since  you had credit in Literature-in- English, Economics,  & Geography.

Aminu Isa: A credit pass in Government is compulsory for any candidate that wishes to study Political Science. In some university, a credit pass in History could be accepted in lieu of Government. The candidate is advice to go through the JAMB brochure for detail as it relates to various institutions. Candidate is also advice to adhere strictly to subjects combination in UMTE as failure to do this, may rule him or her out of admission. This also depends on institution.

My advice: It appears you can study Mass Communication without credit pass in Government, but hardly Political Science. Your best bet is to go to that school and ask, or check the JAMB brochure to see compulsory subjects.

You need Five SSCE credit passes to include English Language, Literature – in – English and any other three Arts/Social Science subjects (Government, Economics, Commerce, Geography etc).

For UME, English, Literature-in-English and any two other Arts/or Social Science subjects (Government, Economics, Commerce, Geography etc).
