So you’ve finally gotten that degree and now you’re ready to put it to use! It might sound a bit superficial but wardrobe should be a key consideration for people just leaving university. Mental and physical change can actually come in the form of a shopping spree for some more professional duds.

Gone are the days when all you had to do was pull yourself together to attend class or hang out at the library-it’s time to present a more polished image. Not only will new clothes prepare you for those all-important interviews, they can also get you in the right frame of mind for work.

Check your Living Situation

Living with roomies and pulling all-nighters for studying might have been fine when you were a student. Full time jobs, however, require you to be well-rested in the mornings and able to really able to come home and unwind in the evenings.

Now might be the time to set off and rent a comfortable place of your own. If you do plan on continuing the shared housing situation, make sure your housemates are on the same page as you are.

Take the Best from University and Leave the Worst

As your life changes you’ll want to maintain all the best aspects of your university habits and hopefully leave the rest behind.

Were you a dedicated student who was great at time management? Take this with you to your new job. Put those good study habits to work and focus on work deadlines. On the flip side, now might be a good time to really learn how to prioritise tasks and finish things on time.

You’ll also want to try to leave behind any bad habits like being messy or eating junk food. Really use this time to take stock of your life and your goals; use the transition from university to the real world as a time for positive growth.

Work life is totally different from school life. For school life anything goes. Work life, however, requires things to be done professionally be it eating, walking, talking, dressing, handshaking etc. Even if all of these have to be made up, one must be professional!
