Q&A ON CAREER SWITCH FROM PHARMACY TO OIL & GAS

0

Hello,

I was opportune to come across your site and I’m really impressed.

Straight to the point, I’m a pharmacist by profession with many years of experience. I’m no longer enjoying the profession because it’s no more  dynamic and spontaneous. I want to have  a career change, based on your vast experience ,which sector will you advise me and why?.I’m thinking of oil and gas but what’s the best training course to do that will give me the ample opportunity to work in oil and gas sector  apart  from  their clinics/hospitals.

Your reply is valuable..

Regards,

Uche

Hi Uche,

After many years in Pharmacy, I’m not sure you can delve into oil and gas. Top oil and gas companies include Shell, Chevron, Oando, Total, Mobil etc.

You’re not an entry level person, so your past experience is what will be looked at. Unfortunately, your experience is not in an area related to oil and gas, so I’m not sure there is anything you can do. Training courses will not substitute experience.
If your experience was in more general areas like corporate affairs, procurement, the chance will be better, but for pharmacy, the best case is opening in an oil and gas company’s clinic, which you have already ruled. I would say it’s too late to start a career in core oil and gas now.
I wish you all the best.
