Pharmacist-turned Journalist, Tolu Ogunlesi, wins Jarushub Nigerian Role Model 2013

The search for the Jarushub Nigerian Role Model 2013 ended yesterday with pharmacy-turned journalist, Tolu Ogunlesi, emerging the winner.

Other nominees in the list included Mrs. Sola David Borha, CEO of StanbicIBTC; Mr. Niyi Yusuf, CEO of Accenture Nigeria; and Mr. Simon Kolawole, former editor of THISDAY. The final choice was arrived at by weighted votes by Jarushub readers, editorial team, and a select group of eminent Nigerians, including a former presidential candidate, who voted from the list of nominees

Jarushub is a Nigerian online portal with focus on career and mentorship. Highly rated as one of the most influential web-based platforms in Nigeria, Jarushub has redefined experience and information sharing in the country. According to the founder, Mr. Suraj Oyewale, “the idea of Jarushub Nigerian Role Model of the year is to celebrate Nigerians who have stood out in an era where credibility is fast eroding in our society”. Tolu Ogunlesi, who also recently won the CNN/Multi-choice African journalist of the year 2013, is a columnist with Punch newspaper and a blogger with Huffington post, world’s most popular blog. He is also a poet, with many poetry collections to his credit. He has written a couple of books, including Conquest & Conviviality. Born in 1982, Ogunlesi attended University of Ibadan where he studied pharmacy and the University of East Anglia (UK) where he bagged a Masters degree in Creative Writing. His journalism has appeared in NEXT, The Africa Report, Africa Confidential, The Huffington Post, London Guardian, The Economist online, and CNN.com. For two-and-half years he wrote a weekly column, Ongoing Concerns, for NEXT. He had earlier won the CNN/Multichoice African Journalism Prize in 2009, before clinching the biggest  prize in 2013.
Tolu will be presented with the award at the Jarushub Career Conference slated for February 1, 2014 in Lekki, Lagos.
