OIL & GAS INDUSTRY AND A COMPUTER SCIENCE STUDENT’S DREAM

7

Good day sir, I am a fan of JarusHub and I must say , you are during a great job. I need your honest  advice on my career path.

My name is Chinwa,  currently a final year student in one of Nigeria’s top federal universities. I am studying Computer Science and currently my CGPA sits at 3.74/5.0, which is a 2.1….

Sir, I am really considering working in a top oil firm after I graduate from school, but my fear is:
1. Is my CGPA  good enough?
2. Can a computer science student work in an oil company? If yes, what
roles are available and how easy/ hard is it?
3. What steps do you suggest I take to make my dreams come true?
4. Can you also please send me samples of Job tests exams.

Sir, once again I say a big thank you and await your response…

Dear Chinwa,

1, Yes, 2.1 is OK. Just try and ensure it doesn’t fall below 3.50

2, Yes, he can. There is nothing that is easy. Oil companies have IT departments to be peopled by Computer Science graduates.

3, Study hard to finish with that 2.1 first; read about the oil and gas industry; immediately you graduate, subscribe to job websites and start advising for advertised opportunities, whether in the oil and gas industry or not. Start reading about interviews, tests etc, use your NYSC year to perfect this. Subscribe to JarusHub and other career sites. Develop your communication skills.

4, Check out this website: http://www.jobtestprep.co.uk/. The have both free and premium resources on job tests.

Read our ARTICLES ON OIL & GAS JOBS & INDUSTRY to sharpen your knowledge of employment in the industry.

Ultimately, don’t limit yourself to oil and gas industry only.

All the best.

Jarus

Depending on the units of the courses you will offer in the two semesters. It’s a tough one, I must tell you. Very slim chance if possible at all.

Yes. I have several friends that studied computer science and work or used to work in the oil and gas sector.

Just make sure you make good grade and apply to oil and gas companies after graduation.
