If JarusHub is raising only the next Fola Adeola/Atedo Peterside, who raises the next Gani Fawehinmi/Tunde Ponle/Adeoye Lambo?

Sir, your interest, better put, your obsession with anything finance, accounting, tax, oil and gas and banking has reduced Jarushub to a platform meant for those in aforementioned sectors and not for those in Sciences, Engineering and other fields of study. This I think has partially contradicted the purpose of your blog as a career portal.

Unless your aim is to mentor the next Fola Adeola, Aig-Imoukhude, Tayo Aderinmoku, Atedo boys, Suraj Oyewale and the likes, I do not see any reason why little/no attention should be given to professional bodies like COREN, SITSE and the likes, while ICAN, ACCA, CFA are being discussed on a daily basis.

I have received this feedback several times. In fact, another ardent reader of JarusHub, Austin, asked similar question at the JarusHub offline career conference last year.

I appreciate the feedback of these loyal fans of JarusHub and I agree with them that JarusHub is appearing tilted towards finance, banking, oil and gas, and the likes.

It is not deliberate and the reason is not far-fetched: I am the founder and most active writer on this portal, and I am an economist and accountant, with experience in oil and gas and investment banking industries. So it is only natural that I know more about these fields and sectors than any other thing. Majority of my immediate friends and people in my network are also accountants, economists, and finance professionals, and work in financial and oil and gas sectors.

I agree with the observers  that we have grounds to cover on JarusHub in terms of coverage of non-finance fields and non-oil and gas sectors, but I don’t think we totally neglect other fields as well. We have these contributors to JarusHub who are engineers, lawyers and medical doctors.

Dr. Muhammad Shakir Balogun is a medical doctor and has treated medical career case in the past, like the case of this young doctor in dilemma.

Dr. Michael Taiwo is a chemical engineer and has treated a couple of cases on engineering like the case of this gentleman.

Gani Fawehinmi

Idris Bello is a computer scientist and has contributed to resolving a couple of computer-related career dilemmas we received on JarusHub.

The above 3 are members of JarusHub Analysts Council with varying degrees of activeness. Our former columnist, Misbau Lateef, also did a series on how to become a lawyer in Nigeria.  We have also published articles on careers in estate management by Mayowa Akinsola.

The thing is, most of the career issues readers send to us border on finance/accounting/oil and gas, and we only respond to questions we receive. Hence the seeming bend.

That said, I will try and get our Science/Engineering/Arts writers to come up with independent articles on their fields even when we don’t receive cases bordering on their specializations from readers. I will also try and get more contributors on these fields, so that JarusHub will not raise just the next Fola Adeola and Atedo Peterside but also the next Gani Fawehinmi, Adeoye Lambo and Tunde Ponle.

An on-point observation and a fair response. I concur with Olabanji. We would like to see articles on careers in the Information Technology and telecommunications industry; how to get in there. We would like to know what engineering divisions are in the oil and gas industry and the courses appropriate for each (especially as peculiar to Nigeria). We would like see a bigger picture of medicine, engineering, sciences, education etc and the opportunities abound for them in various sectors. A picture than can only be properly painted by the experienced. Trust me, many undergraduates and fresh graduates are in delimmas revolving around these issues.
