HOW SOCIAL MEDIA NETWORKING AIDED MY JOB SEARCH

1

Hello Jarus,

Greetings.

I have been a reader of your blog for the past 2 months.

After going through this article “FINAL YEAR STUDENTS: HOW TO NETWORK LIKE A PRO”, I thought it will be nice I share my story and lessons with you and others who will attend your Networking Saturday on the 25th.

My name is John (Editor withheld real name). I am a graduate of Computer Science from a university in the South-South. I have always loved to share my story, perhaps it will inspire someone.

Lest I bother you with all the details now, I wish to let you know that “NETWORKING LIKE A PRO” has really helped me attain the height I have attained and I know I’m not done yet.  This is just the beginning, I believe.

Here’s a brief summary:

I came to Lagos in the search of job after my Youth Service in October 2013 with just N5000 because I had bought a laptop with all the allawee I saved during the service year. Knowing nobody that could help, I effectively used the social media and landed my first job within 3 weeks of arriving Lagos. Though the pay wasn’t encouraging, I forged ahead. I got another job from a contact at the first job, worked at the second for 12 months and now I’m with an Oil Services company. Suffice me to mention that NETWORKING was the key.

I’ll also love to have a chat with you and see how I can help impact lives during your Networking Saturday.

Thanks for this great work, you have touched lives positively. Keep up the good work Sir.

Meanwhile, do let me know how I can get your book (The Road to Victoria Island).

Kind regards,

John

    This is really inspiring.
Just last week Friday, I got a friend request on one of the social media platforms, together with a message which read: “I’d like to discuss a job opportunity with you”.
On checking her profile, I discovered that she was (she still is) a HR consultant at a Firm that recruits for the Oil and Gas. Wow!, I said to myself. In the end, I recommended a friend for the position. She was interviewed yesterday and waiting now for a feedback from the organization.
My candid Advice, NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF YOUR NETWORK!
