GETTING A JOB: SCALING THE SSCE RESULT OBSTACLE

2

Hi Jarus,

I am an ardent follower of your blog and I am inspired by your good works and advices. Please keep it up.

I use my GCE result because of ‘date of birth’ and ‘sex’ errors in my WAEC (internal) certificate. Problem is, I had just 5 credits in not so relevant subjects (with English and Maths though). The HR head in a bank I once interviewed with pointed out the poor result and this has negatively affected my confidence. I fear that other firms may deny me opportunities because of this.
Could you please advise on how to defend the result in case it comes up during another recruitment interview. Also, Is it wise I bring up the issue myself, during interviews, so I can clarify things?
I made a second class upper in the university.
Thanks in anticipation of your prompt response.
James

Dear James
Don’t let it affect your confidence. Many people with average WAEC SSCE result got good job. Just tell them that you have made up by making a decent grade (2.1) in the university, and you were a rather naive young student with little guidance then.
I wish you all the best.
Jarus
