DOUBLE OFFER: BANK OR INSURANCE COMPANY?

0

Good day sir,

I am a S.K. I need help urgently in form of an advice. I am a chemical engineering graduate from a reputable university. I have been on the job hunt since I finished NYSC last year. Most times I easily get called up for interviews with financial sectors than energy sectors.

Presently I got a good offer with a top insurance company with over 100k monthly plus other benefits to resume shortly. I am also on recruitment process awaiting medicals of one of the Top 4 banks. The medicals could come anytime from now. I have decided to switch career path since technical industries are not forth coming.

Now, I know I would pass through training school in that bank  for about 4 months. I need your advice on which to go for. Is an insurance firm better in growth than a new generation bank? I am looking for faster growth, not actually the pay. If I am to go into banking, and someone goes into insurance, after 3 years of working, will they be at same positions?

Your anticipated response would be highly appreciated.

Yours Sincerely,

S.K

Dear S.K

Not all banks are better than the insurance company you got offer from, but this bank  is better than the company you got offer from. But since you already have the insurance offer in your hand, go and resume. Employers can be funny at times, even after medical stage. Resume at the insurance company; once you have the bank’s training school resumption letter, resign in the insurance company and resume at the bank’s training school. You will get pay cut during the training school (less than 100k) but after that, you start collecting full salary of about 200k.

There is no harm in switching if opportunities are not forthcoming in your primary field. But you can still be applying for technical openings in the Energy sector even while in bank until you get a job in your primary field or your interest fully evaporates.

Also, yes, there is promotion every 1 or 2 years provided you meet some performance standard. And there is also salary increase almost every year.

All the best.
