DILEMMA OF A JOBLESS MULTIPLE QUALIFICATIONS HOLDER

0

Hi Jarus,

I have an HND Accounting, MBA Financial Management, B. A History, LL.B Law , B.L and ACIT. I had 2.2.

I am interested in tax practice, development and financial management but I am unable to secure better offers.

I am considering writing ICAN from PE 1 with my HND Certificate.

Please advise me as I am already 36 years now on best way to go as I need a job now.

ROAD TO VI PRINT1

Dear Jay,

You can start writing ICAN, but at 36, ICAN may not be the magic wand again. You have enough qualifications to consider starting your own outfit, on a small scale, focusing on SMEs.

If you still want paid employment, you can keep trying applying to small firms too, as most big tax practice firms may not want to recruit someone as old as you are, except with very quality experience which I don’t think you have. Small firms may consider you. You may spread your tentacles beyond Lagos too, by trying opportunities in other state capitals (Ilorin, Kaduna, Osogbo, Ibadan, etc) where small consulting firms thrive.

I still hold that with these qualifications, you can partner with friends or other like-minds to package a small firm.

Either way, there is no harm in going ahead to start writing ICAN. It may make the difference, you never can tell.

I wish you all the best.
