DILEMMA OF A BANK CONTRACT STAFF

0

Good Evening Jarus,

I have an HND as well as a Bsc in Business Administration and I have also completed my MBA in Finance.
Presently, I am considering a Msc degree also in Finance but the most shocking part of it is that I still work as a contract staff in one of the commercial banks in Nigeria.

I have applied to various banks but I am always dropped at the interview stage due to the fact that  I am a contract staff. Most of these banks claimed that I am not on the banking career path and as such they cannot employ me.

Kindly advise me on what to do to get myself put of this ugly situation.
Best Regards.

Dear Friend,
You have enough qualifications: HND, Bsc and MBA. I’m not sure you need Msc for now, but there is no harm in going for one if it wont affect your job.
I’m surprised you are always dropped at the interview stage. Interviews are great platforms to sell yourself. Sometimes, all these petty things, like you’re a contract staff, you’re not on banking career line etc, are crushed with great performance in interview. So I’m guessing something is wrong with your interview taking strategy. When next you have an interview, we can coach you at JarusHub Interview Preparation Platform.
That you’re not on banking career path can only hold water if your job in all your banking years has been tellering.
I know some banks use contract staff even for core banking areas. So it may depend on job content. What is the nature of your experience?
Overall, I still think, with all these your qualifications, you should be able to get good permanent banking job elsewhere if you perform exceptionally well in interview.
Strategy? Prepare for interview very well when next you get invite for one. Or if your current bank converts to full staff, explore the opportunity through solid networking, and fantastic performance.
Another strategy is, rather than getting more academic qualifications like that Msc, try professional qualifications like ICAN, CITN or ACCA, that will make you more marketable or make it easy to expand your option beyond banking.
All the best.
Jarus
