CFA or Online Master’s?

Hi Jarus,

I want to find out how relevant online degrees are. I am thinking of doing my Master’s online but I do not know how employers view it. Is it well regarded as with a full time program? Also I am done with my ACCA exams so I’m just wondering what to do next. I work in a bank so I am contemplating either doing the CFA or Msc in International Securities, Investment and Banking( through distance learning). Which one do you think I should pursue?

I passed this on to one of the Jarus eggheads who has both Msc and CFA and experience in investment banking:

Obafemi3

OBAFEMI BAMIDELE, Msc (Edinburgh), ACA, ACCA, ACS, CFA

For me, I will go for CFA rather than any online MSC. CFA is highly respected (and even cheaper) and can be handled at one’s pace. Masters, and I don’t think online ones are exceptions, are rigorous, expensive, time consuming and do not add any extra value.
He should at the same time be working at experience and moving his career forward, qualifications remain a means to an end and not ends themselves.

This is what I love most: “qualifications remain a means to an end and not ends themselves”
Qualification is to launch you on a podium of your scholarly and professional family, your flourishing experience there takes more.

Tend to disagree with femi bamidele on the option of doing cfa rather than online masters. I think masters still matters in terms of career progression and moving up a higher care while for me cfa is more of a status thing in Nigeria as fewer organisations place a premium on the certification. For me i’d rather go for masters first.
