I will say you should go for a Chemical Engineering masters because a Chemical Engineer can work in a broader range of industries than a Petroleum Engineer. Every one wants a Chemical Engineer: oil & gas, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, chemicals and plastics, alternative energy, and so on. On the other hand, a Petroleum engineer typically only looks for oil & gas jobs.

Also, since your background is in Industrial Chemistry, studying Chemical Engineering is a natural next step but switching to a completely new field (Petroleum engineering) will be more tasking.

It’s rarely possible to cross from a science field to engineering. It’s not possible, only if you do your bsc in industrial chemistry and msc in petroleum engineering
