Dubai is the most populous and largest city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Dubai, which has grown tremendously economically, is one of the most visited cities globally. Situated on the Southeast coast of the Persian Gulf, she has grown in significance as a major transport hub – passengers and cargo – with the 4th busiest airport globally. The only way to work in Dubai and the rest of the UAE legally is by obtaining a work/employment visa, as it is illegal to work while on a visit or tourist visa. Persons who are caught working without an employment visa will be deported according to the Ministry of Labour. As stated above, getting a job requires an employment visa, which requires being recruited by an employer (who will apply for an employment visa on your behalf). - Gulf News: Popular English newspaper with a portal for jobs.
- Khaleejtimes: UAE’s oldest running English newspaper. It has a separate tabloid – KT Buzzon – carrying advertisements on various vacancies.
- Nadia: This is Dubai’s Dragnet. A top recruitment firm that offer services such as: Executive staffing, psychometric testing, employees’ training, wage and compensation surveys etc.

Unlike GCC citizens who don’t require visas before entry into the UAE or 33 countries’ citizens who get visas on arrival in Dubai, Nigerians require an entry permit and a sponsor prior to arrival into the country. This happens when the sponsor applies for the visa on behalf of the intending migrant. The type of visa applied for depends on the permit solicited for, such as residency, work, visiting friends or relatives.
A CV tip for Dubai jobs: Ensure you include a photograph in your CV. Functional, chronological and combined CV formats are accepted in the UAE. A cover letter is also necessary.
